It will be larger vehicle measuring about 115mm longer and 15mm wider than the previous model, with a longer wheelbase with an updated exterior and interior design elements that align it with other larger Mazda models like the CX-70 and CX-90.

It will launch with a standard 2.5L engine and i-Activ all-wheel drive, with a new hybrid powertrain arriving later.

Mazda’s exhibition theme is “The joy of driving fuels a sustainable tomorrow.” Toward the year 2035 when there will be technological innovations and much advanced social infrastructure, Mazda aims to contribute to a bountiful planet while responding to people’s passion for cars and driving, and their desire to enjoy driving for as long as possible. Mazda envisions a world that harmonizes a sustainable society with uplifting experiences through the joy of driving.

The CX-5 has sold more than 4.5 million units across over 100 countries.

Mazda also unveiled two concept models at this Japan Mobility Show 2025. The Vision X-Coupe is a crossover coupe with a plug-in hybrid system featuring a two-rotor rotary turbo engine, while the Vision X-Compact incorporates empathetic artificial intelligence (AI).

The Vision X-Coupe produces 510 PS and offers a driving range of 160km in electric mode and up to 800 km when operating with the engine. The vehicle uses carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae combined with Mazda’s CO2 capture technology. The automaker stated the system reduces atmospheric CO2 as the vehicle is driven.
