The Deepal S05 EV, made in Rayong, Thailand, will be sold in Europe.
Chinese automaker Changan Automobile has officially commenced exports of its Deepal S05 compact SUV to Europe from its manufacturing hub in Thailand. This move marks a significant milestone for the company, utilizing its Rayong facility—Changan’s first overseas production base for new energy vehicles—as a global launchpad.

Changan was intially thought to enter the Malaysian market via Bermaz due to Changan’s association with Mazda in China. The Mazda EZ6 electric vehicle, for instance, was made with Changan in China. Let’s see how things actually roll out in Malaysia now that CBU EVs are being hit with excise duties and import taxes.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, the Rayong plant, which began construction in November 2023 with a total investment of CNY 1.9 billion (US$ 270.3 million), has now started production and export operations. Domestic production for the Thai market specifically commenced earlier this year on 16 May 2025.
A “Europe-Specific” Powerhouse
While the Deepal S05 was initially launched in China in October 2024 with a focus on affordability, the European export models feature enhanced specifications tailored to the market.
According to details released at the Munich Auto Show in September, the European lineup is priced between EUR 38,990 and EUR 44,990 (approx. US$45,900-53,000). Unlike the Chinese domestic models which start with smaller battery packs, European versions are equipped with a larger 68.82 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery as standard.

Changan is offering two distinct powertrain configurations for European buyers:
- Single-Motor (RWD): Delivers 200 kW (268 hp), accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds with a WLTP range of 485 km.
- Dual-Motor (AWD): A Europe-exclusive variant confirmed at the Munich Motor Show. It produces a combined 320 kW (429 hp), sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds with a WLTP range of 445 km.
All variants support fast charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 30% to 80% within 15 minutes.

High-Tech Design and Interior
The Deepal S05 rides on Changan’s EPA1 platform, sharing its architecture with the S07 and L07 models. It features a sleek exterior with a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd and dimensions of 4620/1900/1600 mm. A standout feature is the Huawei xPixel headlight system, capable of projecting a 1.3-million pixel, 120-inch display, turning the car’s lights into a projector.

Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 15.4-inch 2.5K central control screen powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. The traditional instrument panel has been replaced by an AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display). The vehicle runs on Deepal OS 3.1, providing real-time data on weather and vehicle status.
Practicality has also been prioritized, with EV versions offering a 159-litre frunk in addition to a 651-litre rear cargo area. The center console even includes a 13-litre temperature-controlled compartment for heating or cooling drinks.
Global Expansion Timeline
The export to Europe is part of a broader international rollout for the Deepal S05.
