Mazda has officially expanded its electric portfolio for Europe with the reveal of the all-new Mazda CX-6e.
The Mazda CX-6e is the latest introduction to the company’s european electric portfolio. Described as “electric driving in its most artful form,” this mid-size electric SUV blends Japanese aesthetics with the robust architecture of Mazda’s partnership with Changan. Built on a shared platform with the Deepal S07 (similar to the Mazda EZ-6 sedan), the CX-6e is a bold statement that aims to challenge the likes of the Tesla Model Y with superior craftsmanship and distinctive style.

The CX-6e represents a significant evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language.
- Exterior: The front features a “cleanly chiseled” face with aerodynamic vents and Mazda’s signature wing that lights up in sequence. A floating D-pillar design aids airflow, while the “Nightfall Violet” hero colour shifts between purple and black depending on the light.

- Interior: Inspired by the Japanese concept of Ma (the beauty of empty space), the cabin is minimalist yet warm. It features a sweeping 26-inch touchscreen that spans the dashboard and a 256-colour ambient lighting system.

Under the sleek skin, the CX-6e packs a competitive powertrain designed for European roads.
- Battery: 78 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
- Range: Up to 484 km (WLTP)
- Power: Rear-mounted motor producing 190 kW (258 PS) and 290 Nm of torque.
- 0-100 km/h: 7.9 seconds
- Charging: Supports DC fast charging up to 195 kW, allowing for a 10-80% charge in just 24 minutes.

Mazda has packed the CX-6e with “Omotenashi” (hospitality) features:
- Gesture Control: Simple hand signals can navigate you home or change music tracks.
- Bluetooth Headrest Speakers: Allows the driver to take calls or hear navigation prompts without interrupting the audio for passengers.
- Pet Comfort Mode: Keeps the climate control running for pets while the car is parked.
- Digital Side Mirrors: Optional cameras replace traditional mirrors for better aerodynamics and night vision.

Will It Come to Malaysia?
While the CX-6e is confirmed for European showrooms in Summer 2026, its potential arrival in Malaysia is interesting.

The CX-6e’s sedan sibling, the Mazda EZ-6 (rebranded as the Mazda 6e in Europe), has already been confirmed for right-hand drive (RHD) markets like Thailand. Given that the CX-6e shares the same EPA1 platform and Changan manufacturing base, an RHD conversion is technically feasible and highly likely for the UK market later in 2026. If the UK gets it, the door is wide open for Malaysia.

In Germany, prices are expected to start around €49,990 (approx. RM235,000). If brought to Malaysia as a CBU EV (enjoying current tax exemptions), it could be priced competitively against the BMW iX1 or Tesla Model Y. However, without local assembly (CKD) or extended tax incentives beyond 2025, it might face stiff competition from cheaper Chinese rivals.

For now, Malaysian fans can only admire the “Nightfall Violet” paintwork from afar—but don’t be surprised if Bermaz Motor brings this artful EV to our shores by 2027.
