Geely’s CaoCao Plans To Deploy 100,000 Robotaxis Globally

Geely’s CaoCao wants to start their robotaxi programme by 2030.

CaoCao Inc. has announced plans to deploy 100,000 purpose-built Robotaxis by 2030, marking a significant entry into the commercial autonomous mobility sector. The announcement, made during Geely Holding Group’s 2026 Strategy Briefing, outlines a comprehensive roadmap for large-scale commercial operations both in China and internationally.

Integrated Robotaxi Development Model

CaoCao’s operational framework is built upon a three-pillar model integrating intelligent purpose-built vehicles, autonomous driving technology, and intelligent operations. This approach leverages Geely’s extensive automotive manufacturing capabilities alongside CaoCao’s decade of experience in the shared mobility market. The company possesses a substantial volume of trip data and established dispatch algorithms, providing the foundational infrastructure necessary for the commercialization of autonomous fleets.

Robotaxi 2.0 and Fleet Management

The company is currently in its Robotaxi 2.0 phase, which involves active pilot operations focused on automated management for large-scale fleets. Key initiatives include the launch of the “CaoCao Intelligent Mobility RAS” platform and the implementation of an intelligent asset management system. This phase aims to transition from operations requiring safety drivers to fully driverless services. Additionally, the company is exploring the management of mixed fleets that combine traditional human-driven vehicles with autonomous units.

A central component of this strategy is the development of a fully purpose-built Robotaxi model pre-equipped with proprietary autonomous driving components. This vehicle is scheduled for its debut within the current year.

To support these autonomous operations, CaoCao is utilizing Geely’s Green Intelligent Mobility Hubs. these hubs function as physical nodes within a three-dimensional mobility network that links transportation, energy, and data. CaoCao has developed a replicable standard for these hubs, which are intended to provide full-scenario automated support for custom vehicles. The long-term vision involves an integrated “Space-Air-Ground” mobility ecosystem supported by intelligent infrastructure.

CaoCao is also pursuing international growth through strategic partnerships. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) to establish an office and operations center in Abu Dhabi. This collaboration will focus on piloting autonomous driving and green mobility technologies, specifically integrating CaoCao’s battery-swapping network and operational framework into the regional energy ecosystem. Could we see this international goal trickle into Malaysia via Proton or Pro-Net?

The company’s objective is to build an autonomous mobility service network that extends across China and into global markets. By deepening collaboration with other Geely business units and utilizing purpose-built fleets as a core element, CaoCao intends to transition urban transportation toward automated and efficient systems. The target of 100,000 vehicles by 2030 underscores the scale of planned commercial deployment.
