Jaecoo’s parent company is now utilising the Mercedes-Benz assembly facility in Wanaherang, Bogor, West Java, as an additional production site.
The increased demand from Indonesians buyers exceeded Jaecoo’s initial projections, requiring an expansion of production capacity to maintain supply to consumers.
Chery Group President Director Zhen Shuo stated that the Jaecoo J5 assembly process at the Wanaherang facility commenced in January 2026. The addition of this assembly site was intended to reduce indent times while maintaining production stability for the J5 in Indonesia.
The Wanaherang facility, operated by Inchape Indomobil Manufacturing Indonesia, serves as the second assembly site for the J5.
Chery Sales Indonesia stated that the quality of the vehicles meets Jaecoo’s global standards, despite being assembled at a different plant.
Prior to the start of production, the Chery Group adjusted its manufacturing processes and conducted specialised training to ensure all quality standards were met.
These measures were implemented to ensure that J5 units assembled at Wanaherang have the same specifications and quality as those produced at other assembly facilities.
Chery Sales Indonesia has not confirmed whether this collaboration will be extended to other Chery Group models. The company’s current focus is on meeting the demand for the Jaecoo J5.
The Jaecoo J5 was introduced in Indonesia at the IIMS 2025 event, and official pricing was announced in November 2025. The electric vehicle is offered in two variants: the Standard variant, priced at IDR 249.9 million (USD14,990 which is about RM59,500 only), and the Premium variant, priced at IDR 299.9 million.
In terms of specifications, the Jaecoo J5 EV is equipped with a 155 kW electric motor, equivalent to 211 PS, delivering a peak torque of 288 Nm to the front wheels.
The vehicle has a 60.9 kWh battery, providing a driving range of up to 461 km under the NEDC standard. It supports 130 kW DC fast charging, enabling a charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.
With the addition of the Wanaherang assembly facility, Jaecoo anticipates faster and more evenly distributed deliveries of the J5 to consumers and an increased electric vehicle production capacity in Indonesia.
In Malaysia, the Jaecoo J5 is considered a rival to popular B-segment SUVs like the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and Chery Tiggo Cross due to its competitive pricing (estimated around RM120,000 in Malaysia), premium features, and modern, tech-forward design targeting urban families. It competes by offering a combination of high-spec technology (2K screen, 540-degree camera), unique “pet-friendly” features, and 7-speed DCT.
