We have just heard rumblings in the auto industry that Chinese Auto giant BYD will NOT be participating in the upcoming KLIMS (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show) 2026 (which will be held from June 12–21, 2026, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre).
No official statement or news has been released, but we think, BYD might already be planning something really special that needs more open air/outdoor area, over a closed exhibition space.
Plus, in recent months we have seen and read about BYD using large outdoor spaces to create a real impact for their brand. This will also give them more exclusive attention away from the dozen or so new Chinese rivals which will be participating in KLIMS 2026.

For Example, Here Are Some Key BYD Outdoor Water Exhibitions & Demos (2025-2026):
In Zhengzhou China there was an All-Terrain Circuit (2025) where BYD launched a permanent all-terrain track that includes a 70-meter-long water crossing pool designed specifically for the YANGWANG U8. This, combined with indoor sand dunes, allows for extreme, open-air testing of the U8’s capability to float, steer, and navigate in deep water.
Then there was the “Light The Change” Festival, Desa ParkCity (Dec 2025 – Jan 2026) which was eld at The Waterfront, this open-air event in Malaysia featured an immersive exhibition with BYD and DENZA, incorporating themed zones.
This was followed by the BYD Tech Discovery Tour, Johor (Jan 2026) where an outdoor event featured the BYD Shark pickup truck and DENZA Z9 GT with experiential activities like camel bridges and speed bumps.
Lets not forget the E-JOURNEY 2025 in Zhengzhou China which was a global event where the YANGWANG U8 demonstrated stable, controlled floating performance in open water, leveraging its independent wheel control for movement.

With more than 26,000 BYD’s already on Malaysian roads and counting fast, this Chinese automaker is now among the 10 best-selling car brands in Malaysia. And with its current fully-electric lineup, it should come as no surprise that BYD is also the country’s most popular EV brand to date.
