Porsche 911 Crashes In Gurney Drive Cafe

A 61-year-old Chinese woman allegedly lost control of her Porsche 911 and crashed into a hotel café along Gurney Drive in Penang after mistakenly pressing the accelerator pedal instead of the brake (sounds like the same situation with the recent Zeekr 7X accident in Section 17 PJ).

The senior driver had reportedly driven to a luxury condominium in the area to pick up her grandson when the accident occurred. She is believed to have been unfamiliar with the vehicle’s controls and accidentally stepped on the accelerator, causing the car to surge forward.

The incident took place between 11:30am and 11:47am at a hotel on the busy Gurney Drive in Penang.

According to preliminary police investigations and the driver’s report, the woman, who is from Bukit Mertajam, was originally heading toward Jalan Kelawai when she lost control of the vehicle near the hotel.

The Porsche then crashed through the café’s floor-to-ceiling glass panels and came to a stop inside the premises.

The impact left the café in disarray, with shattered glass covering the floor and tables and chairs either damaged or pushed aside. The front portion of the Porsche sports car ended up inside the café, causing significant property damage.

Witnesses said a loud bang was heard at the moment of impact. The force of the collision shattered the café’s glass entrance and windows, startling both staff and customers.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The driver said the front, rear and sides of the Porsche, as well as the windshield, were damaged. All four airbags deployed during the crash. The total cost of the damage has yet to be determined.
