Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has officially confirmed the imminent arrival of the evolved fully electric Volvo EX90 which features massive upgrades over last year’s model. Positioned as the Swedish marque’s most technologically advanced production model to date, the software-defined EV introduces high-voltage hardware upgrades, advanced core computing power, and a comprehensive interior and exterior sensor shield.
Designed to continuously evolve over its lifecycle via seamless over-the-air (OTA) software updates, the EX90 emphasizes Volvo’s commitment toward full electrification and uncompromising passenger protection. Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, Chris Wailes, noted that the EX90 reflects the brand’s human-centric engineering philosophy and ongoing dedication to continuous improvement, delivering a driving experience rooted in quiet luxury, confidence, and safety.
800V Electrical Architecture and 680 hp Twin Motor Performance
Under the skin, the evolved EX90 transitions to a state-of-the-art 800-volt electrical platform, bringing substantial gains in efficiency, thermal management, and raw propulsion output:
- Twin Motor All-Wheel-Drive: The dual electric motor setup generates a massive combined output of 680 hp and 870 Nm of torque.
- Rapid Acceleration: Dispatches the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.2 seconds, providing immediate performance while preserving acoustic isolation and passenger refinement.
- Weight and Material Efficiency: The higher voltage 800V platform reduces overall vehicle mass and enhances sustainability by significantly lowering copper dependency across internal wiring harnesses.
Safe Space Technology Shield and Core Computing
Safety remains central to the EX90’s design under Volvo Car Malaysia’s Selamat philosophy. The vehicle functions as an intelligent, protective bubble using a centralized core computer to process real-world data instantly:
- Active Exterior Shield: A centralized system coordinates external cameras, radars, and sensors to detect potential hazards in advance, engineered to actively avoid collisions rather than solely mitigating impact forces.
- Intelligent Sensing Cabin: Internal occupant-sensing systems continuously monitor the interior atmosphere and driver alertness, stepping in with supportive driver-assistance interventions only when necessary.
Scandinavian Minimalism and Registration of Interest
Aesthetically, the flagship SUV retains classic Scandinavian design proportions, featuring flush door handles, aerodynamically optimized surfacing, signature LED illumination, and clean body lines.
