Nabil Jeffri All Fired Up for the Battle in Spa

Encouraged by inspirational words from the Prime Minister, Malaysia’s GP2 driver Nabil Jeffri is all fired up for his next battle in the championship, which will be held at the hugely popular Spa-Francorchamps Circuit this weekend as a support race for the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix taking place from 26 to 28 August 2016.

Boosted by his previous experience competing in Spa, Nabil said that he is ready to push for a Top 10 finish in Spa, which hosts Round 8 of the 11-leg championship.

“I have a good feeling for the race this weekend, having competed in Spa several times in the past. With our comprehensive preparation before this race, I am aiming to finish in the Top 10. As part of our preparations, I am going to the team factory in Banbury for some simulator sessions before going to Spa,” Nabil shared.

“Hopefully, the simulator sessions will further enhance my mastery of this challenging circuit and I will be able to learn more from the team during my stay at Banbury,” said Nabil. The Arden International racing driver met Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak on 15 August at the Prime Minister’s office in Putrajaya, where they talked about plans to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship in 2018 and the overall development of motorsports in the country.

“It was a truly good meeting for me. We spoke at length about my participation in the GP2 series and my plans for the future. I am sincerely grateful to YAB Dato’ Seri Najib for granting this meeting and for supporting our programme,” Nabil added.

As in previous rounds, Round 8 features two races – Race 1 presenting a 25-lap battle or a 175-kilometre race around the 7.004km track on Saturday. Race 2 is a shorter 18-lap or 126-kilometre contest on Sunday.

Other than Nabil in GP2, fellow Malaysian Akash Neil Nandy will also be seeing action at Spa-Francorchamps this coming weekend in the GP3 series. Also in his rookie season, Akash is racing for Jenzer Motorsports this year.

Watch Nabil in action at Spa-Francorchamps on Fox Sports 3 (Channel 818 on Astro). Delayed broadcast of the GP2’s Race 1 will be aired at 5.02pm on Sunday, 28 August 2016 and 4.02pm on Monday, 29 August 2016, while Race 2 will be aired at 7.02am and also at 5.02pm on Monday, 29 August 2016.
