Subaru Legacy 5th Generation Arrives At Motor Image
Motor Image Sdn. Bhd. has never been quick to bring in Subaru’s latest products to Malaysia (Singapore enjoys faster introductions and better sales numbers) with their lack of ‘approved permits’ and market share in the performance sedan and wagon segments. Still they have never disappointed Scooby fans with high end models and attractive pricing even with parallel importers inching closely into their market. Last weekend they announced the arrival of the fully redesigned fifth-generation Subaru Legacy range to Malaysia. Subaru engineers raised the bar with the new series that incorporates Subaru’s heritage of handling and performance into a bold and purposeful package. The new Legacy series, which includes the Legacy 2.5GT Sedan and Legacy 2.5GT Wagon, asserts presence on the road with its larger, daring design and offers the driver an enhanced driving performance, evolved passenger safety and increased interior space.
This Subaru Legacy features Subaru’s core technology such as the symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), Subaru Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), a new engine cradle design and is the roomiest Legacy sedan ever with new levels of comfort and refinement.
The new Legacy sedan is 35 mm longer, 90 mm wider and 80 mm higher than the previous model. While its overhang dimensions are shortened by 45 mm, its wheelbase is expanded by 80 mm, allowing for additional rear legroom. Both front seats excel in comfort and support, and their stitched fabric emphasizes the Legacy’s sporty look.
A newly-designed 3-spoke steering wheel provides a sporty feeling and comes with audio and cruise control buttons. Steering wheel paddle shifters are featured. The four dials on the instrument panel are outlined with aluminum-steam-plated meter rings, and, for immediate reading, their illuminated backgrounds are always on. A multi-information display with average-MPG indicator is located in the center of the dashboard.
Both the Legacy 2.5GT Sedan and Wagon are equipped with a newly refined E-5AT automatic transmission paired with Variable Torque Distribution All-Wheel Drive (VTD). VTD instantaneously distributes the engine’s torque to all four wheels whilst focusing on the rear wheels to suit the conditions, for enhanced handling, superior traction and stability.
The electronically controlled 5-speed transmission features driver-adaptive shifting, blipping control for quicker, smoother downshifts, and manual-style control via paddle shifters.
Subaru-Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) is also featured on these models with three different modes (Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp) to suit three specific driving feels, styles and situations.
The new Legacy features a newly-developed “cradle engine mounting system” which contributes to noise reduction and enhanced stability for a more refined ride. The “ring-shaped reinforcement frame body”, has evolved providing higher-impact absorbing capacity for multi directions. This unique technology found in all Subaru cars, together with the new cradle mounting system, effectively improves, especially the front section of the car.
All-round safety is further ensured with the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system and dual front, side, curtain and knee airbags. The Legacy 2.5GT Sedan/Wagon is available for viewing and test-driving at all Motor Image showrooms in Malaysia. Selling price is RM269,000 for the sedan and an additionla RM10K at RM279,000 for the stylish wagon.
