RM148,888 For A NEW DEFENDER DOUBLE CAB PICK-UP
Many of us have a hidden desire to own and drive a Defender. With hundreds of used units entering the used car market from retirement with the Malaysian government, some specialists have started a thriving business restoring and exporting these hardy vehicles to Africa, India and even Sri Lanka. That leaves Malaysians like us to pay a rather high used price for a bit of automotive enjoyment. Now Land Rover fans in Malaysia have an opportunity to own a new and affordable Land Rover Defender.
Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has launched the new Land Rover Defender 110 Double Cab pick-up priced at RM148,888 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM152,388 for Sabah and Sarawak (excluding insurance). Taking into account that a used ex-military 15 year old unit sells for about RM45,000, this looks like a good deal for a new unit with full warranty. Add to the fact that it will go almost everywhere (like in this pic below)
The new Defender 110 Double Cab is equipped with a host of new features designed to make it suitable for work as well as play. The iconic Land Rover now sports 16” alloy rims (instead of steel rims), leather seats and power windows.
The new Defender 110 Double Cab is powered by a refined 2.4-litre four-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel engine that produces a class-leading 360Nm of torque and 122 hp of peak power output. The powerplant is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed manual gearbox that provides a much wider ratio spread than before. The lower first gear combines with the engine’s increased torque output to make towing on-road and off-road effortless. The new Puma engine also features an anti-stall system.
Inside the cabin, a new facia and improved ergonomics ensure that the Defender is now better integrated, more robust and functionally superior. The materials used are scuff-free and able to withstand extreme weather conditions, ensuring that the Defender is able to operate in the toughest environment.
The new Defender 110 Double Cab is locally assembled at the INOKOM plant in Kulim, Kedah with knocked down (KD) packs fully imported from the manufacturers, Land Rover UK. It has already generated tremendous interest in Sabah and Sarawak where it is highly valued for its legendary toughness and go-anywhere capability.
