0Team Peugeot RCZ Nokia Takes 2nd in VLN endurance at the Nürburgring
Kumho’s relationship with ‘Team Peugeot RCZ Nokia’ got off to a flying start at the opening round of the VLN endurance racing series at the Nürburgring on April 2, when Stéphane Caillet, Michael Bohrer and Jürgen Nett brought their RCZ 2.0 HDi FAP home a convincing second in the class for diesel-powered cars. The fastest lap around the daunting 14-mile Nordschleife Circuit was achieved by Caillet in 10:00.848 minutes, which equates to an average speed for the Peugeot of 146.008 kph (circa 90.7 mph).
Kumho has committed to supporting the two-car equipe of RCZs at all 10 rounds of the Nürburgring-based VLN championship, plus the circuit’s annual 24 Hour race. Said Kumho’s European Motorsport Manager Steve Thompson: “We applaud Peugeot Germany’s decision to promote their popular RCZ Sport Coupes by contesting the demanding VLN series, and are pleased to find they are delighted with the performance of our S700 slick tyres and the support given by Kumho Motorsport Europe and DJ Lee from Kumho R&D. The result from the first race augers well for the team, who have set their sights on a class win in the 39th Nürburgring 24 Hour race on June 23-26.”
The VLN or, to give it its full title, the Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring (Association of Nürburgring Endurance Cup Organisers), comprises eight four hour races and two six hour events. The very popular 24 Hour race is not part of the championship, but is understandably seen as a must-do event for most of the teams concerned.
