VW posted a 12.5% increase in July 2011 thanks to Malaysia, Singapore China and Thailand

For the January to July 2011 period, growth was seen in the VW brand’s new-car sales in all global regions. According to VW AG, sales were most significant in Asia Pacific, China, Russia and the Americas. Last Tuesday, VW brand sold 2.95 million units worldwide, a 12.5% increase compared to the first seven months in 2010. China had the highest seven-month sales, with volume increasing 12.9% to 991,800.

For the month of July, the brand’s sales increased to 419,000 cars, a year-on-year increase of 17.2%. VW didn’t provide the July sales figures for the individual markets. Last year, VW group (including Audi and Skoda) sold 7.14 million units. It trailed General Motors Co. with 8.39 million units and Toyota with 8.42 million units. VW has set a goal to beat Toyota Motor Corp. as the world’s best-selling automaker by 2018.
