Volvo revealed the changes that the 2012 model year of the XC90 SUV both the with the exterior and the interior. However we feel that after so many years in the market, an all new model should have been introduced. Yes, the XC90 was a great product to start with and has been a best seller for Volvo in many markets including Malaysia but its appeal has started losing ground to many newer and exciting competing. The most significant change is the addition of the optional R-Design package. Volvo made the interior more luxurious by adding a three-spoke steering wheel, offering aluminum trim as standard, and using a watch dial-inspired instrument design with white lighting. Furthermore, the tailgate has been divided into an upper and a lower section for more practicality and now features a new, color-coordinated leather handle. The XC90’s exterior is now more muscular with the use of new day running light configuration that features LEDs in the lower bumper, LED brake lights and a silver turn indicator bulb. The highlights include a set of 18-inch wheels in a silver matt finish.
The R-Design package uses a special chassis, some redesigned upholstery, inlays and door panels, as well as new 19-inch alloy wheels. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development at the Volvo Car Corporation, said that the XC90 will still have all of the assets that have contributed to making it one of its most successful models. This crossover is roomy and flexible and features outstanding handling and comfort. Mertens also said that the upgrades to the XC90 include several elements that emphasize the SUV’s unique blend of sophisticated elegance and capable ruggedness.
