GT Asia Series returns to Suzuka

The legendary Suzuka Circuit will once again play host to the GT Asia Series for the 2012 season this coming August. Rounds 7 & 8 of GT Asia Series will be part of the 2012 Super GT Round 5, 41st International Suzuka 1000km on 17-19 August 2012. The 2011 GT Asia Series was held on a weekend that changed from wet to dry and to wet again with numerous exciting incidents, beginning during the unofficial practice session where Samson Chan’s car caught fire causing the session to be stopped, and continuing throughout the entire weekend. Both races that weekend were won by guest driver, Hiroshi Hamaguchi from Hitotsuyama Racing in the Audi R8 LMS, while Series registered driver Eddie Yau took the Championship lead from Mok Weng Sun in some spectacularly close racing. More of the same is expected this August when the GT Asia Series returns to the 5.8km circuit as part of the only 1000km Super GT event. Adding to that will be a celebration to mark the circuit’s 50th Anniversary, garnering attention the world over. The GT Asia Series will kick off with Rounds 1 & 2 at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia on 25-27 May 2012. The Series will then remain in Malaysia for Rounds 3 & 4 as part of the Super GT event from 8-10 June before heading to three Japanese weekends starting with Fuji International Circuit on 13-15 July, Suzuka International Racing Course on 17-19 August and Autopolis International Circuit on 28-30 September. The Season Finale will be held as part of the Macau GP at the Guia International Circuit on 16-18 November.

The GT Asia Series is jointly organised by Motorsport Asia and Supercar Club Hong Kong.
