0Subaru Next-Gen WRX To Get 300bhp
The engine we have all been waiting for has just started testing. This is the first turbocharged variant of Toyota/Subaru’s 2.0-liter, FA-series flat-four engine, the naturally aspirated version that powers the BRZ and its Toyota 86 sibling. The turbo FA20 generates 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque when used in the JDM Legacy, the engine is bolted to Subaru’s CVT for better fuel-economy. It’s expected that a turbo BRZ will be equipped with a proper manual transmission and an auto that’s comparable to what it presently uses. The new turbo FA comes with Subaru’s own direct-injection setup. This is very different from the BRZ’s Toyota-derived direct- and port-injection heads. The 2013 BRZ is already impressive with its rear wheels offering 200hp but with 300hp and this engine will be available within one or two years inside the next-generation WRX and STI.
