Audi R8 Gets A Makeover For 2012

There is a new facelifted version of the R8 sports car coming to town. As expected, the car comes with a new set of impressive headlights showing the latest LED technology but also with new rear indicator lights with dynamicized display. Moreover, the car features a new single-frame grille with the beveled upper corners painted high-gloss black and with horizontal chrome inserts (on V10 models). A new front bumper was also installed featuring new air inlets bearing three crossbars each. As an option, the German manufacturer can install a front splitter made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), while on the R8 V10 Plus this is available as standard. The vent louvers next to the rear window have an aluminum look on the R8 V10 Coupé (matt black on the R8 V8 Coupé and R8 V10 plus). The new R8 will be available in two solid colors Ibis White and Brilliant Red, in four metallic shades and with five pearl effect / crystal effect coatings.

The side blades are available in eight colors, while the soft top of the R8 Spyder comes in black, red or brown. The 4.2-liter V8 engine delivers 316 kW (430 hp) and 430 Nm. The R8 V8 Coupe can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and to a top speed of 300 km/h (with manual transmission: 4.6 seconds and 302 km/h). The R8 V8 Spyder hits the same speed in 4.5 and 4.8 seconds, respectively, and also 300 km/h. Fuel consumption is 12.4 liters of fuel per 100 km. The bigger V10 engine delivers 386 kW and 530 Nm. With these numbers, the coupe can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 314 km/h. The Spyder achieves 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 311 km/h (with manual transmission: 4.1 seconds and 313 km/h.

A further new model has also been introduced, the R8 V10 Plus. This version is powered by the same V10 engine delivering 404 kW (550 hp) and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) of torque. Bolted to the S Tronic, the R8 V10 plus, available only as a coupé, catapults from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 317 km/h (196.97 mph).
