Jaguar To Introduce All Wheel Drive Cars

Jaguar Cars will be rolling out All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) versions of the XF and XJ saloons in selected markets starting with its 2013 Model Year. Jaguar usually offers All-Wheel-Drive versions where there is high demand for the vehicle, especially in areas where harsh conditions exist. The AWD versions are expected to highlight the capability and versatility of the XF and XJ in conditions where considerable road grip is hard to attain. Jaguar will be marketing the AWD versions of the XF and XJ in major markets like North America, Russia, China and continental Europe. The AWD versions are powered by Jaguar’s new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged 340PS petrol engine.
Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director for Jaguar, said that the carmaker has revitalised its core range and is now carrying out an intensive programme of introducing new models, strategic powertrain and technologies to bolster the Jaguar brand globally. He added that the new AWD models is an example of how the company is taking its business forward via targeting specific market opportunities by addressing specific regional requirements. Jaguar is particularly eyeing the US, which is the world’s largest for AWD sales. In fact, initially over three quarters of the AWD models built at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant in the UK from October 2012 will be rolled out in the US.
The addition of the AWD versions to the XF and XJ ranges will allow Jaguar to compete in around 80 percent of the luxury saloon market, a fourfold increase from its previous opportunity. Jaguar will not offer the AWD versions of the XF and XJ in the UK for 2013 Model Year since AWD only accounts for less than five percent of the country’s luxury saloon market.
