Toyota Camry Gets More Dynamic test drive review

The 1st Toyota Camry model arrived in Malaysia in 1994 and in a few months it was the segment best seller. It was well received and till today you can see a large number of these early Camry’s running on the road with happy owners behind the wheel. Part of the Camry’s success in the used car market is due to its low running costs, outstanding reliability, very easy availability of parts when necessary and the ease of maintenance no matter where you go across the country.
Subsequent Camry models have done very well in sales numbers and their resale values have time and time again surprised the competitors who try very hard to push up the used values of their own cars to compete.

Last year an all new Camry arrived with more features and increased safety equipment. This year with market feedback taken into account, this new Camry was launched with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) (2.5V & 2.0G models only), two safety features that assist drivers in unwanted situations and help maintain steering control of their Camry. VSC will help drivers prevent skidding into corners and stabilize their Camry. Traction control is beneficial when the roads are wet. Instead of the driver needing to guess the correct amount of power to send to the wheels, traction control can step in and prevent the car from skidding on a wet surface.
We know that that most Camry buyers will never read a car review like this one before making the decision to buy a Camry or even speak to a Camry owner to get some insight as the nameplate is a best seller across the country.
This new Camry is only a year old but the range has been enhanced further to meet consumer feedback. In the cabin, black combination smooth leather is now used for the seats and door panels (on the 2.5V and 2.0G) and all models come equipped with ISOFIX points for families using baby seats. Smart entry is now included for the 2.0G which allows Camry owners to get into their cars without having to fumble for the key in their pocket or handbag. This also enhances safety as owners need not worry about thieves/carjackers lurking in the shadows waiting for the traditional ‘beep beep’ to sound when approaching their car.

Ignite the engine and the 2.5-liter engine with Dual VVT-i with ACIS is smooth and quiet with a low decibel range. The silky delivery of power shows for a very refined unit and the 6-speed shifts and hunts for the right cog in every range without hesitation or retardation. Push this Camry hard around a roundabout and it digs into the corner with confidence. Unlike previous models which were softer, this Camry is much firmer but comfortable and with no ship like swaying motion when taking in village back roads cutting thru palm oil estates.

So how does this new Camry fare against the current tough competition? Well……with continued strong resale values, reasonable running costs and a strong dealer and after sales network, the Toyota Camry will continue to be the most popular choice for the executive and also family segment buyer in Malaysia and the region.
