Drift fever will be back in Malaysia this September 1st at Speed City, KL as some of the world’s top drift drivers battle it out to excite motorsport fans at the second leg of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Series 2013. Organized by FOX International Channels Asia and broadcast on STAR Sports, Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia 2013 is the fifth edition of the race here in Malaysia.

Eager for victory and leading the Malaysian charge is Formula Drift Asia 2010 Champion, Tengku Djan Ley, who also won the 1st Runner-up title for the Asia series last year, “I’m very excited to get back on the track to represent Malaysia and hopefully win a title on my home ground. On September 1st, I truly hope fans will come together to support the local drivers as we will definitely put on a good show for the crowd!”

This year, he will be joined by local aces; Ser Ming Hui, Mervyn Nakamura, Tan Tat Wei and Loyai, all of whom are determined to do Malaysia proud on their home turf as they too seek to topple the reigning and seemingly unstoppable global champion, Japanese drifter Daigo ‘The Ninja’ Saito from the podium.

Daigo meanwhile has already set the pace at the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Series with a strong victory at the season opener in Australia earlier this year. He will face stiff competition at the Malaysian leg with the likes of Robert Whyte, Tom Monkhouse and Josh Boettcher of Australia, Daynom Templeman of New Zealand, The Norwegian Hammer Fredric Aasbo, Japanese countryman Robbie Nishida as well as the return of Formula Drift USA superstar Ken Gushi who is vying to take the win at the second leg of the 3-race Achilles Formula Drift Asia Series. The Malaysia round will also feature a bevy of top names from Indonesia and Thailand such as Saranon, Oat and Rio.  And to cap it all, this round will also be the debut round for Japanese star Masao Suenaga in his first-ever attempt at the Asia drift series.

The Achilles Formula Drift Asia has been a key drifting event within the region since its inaugural season in 2007, bringing the excitement and heart-stopping track action to fans in iconic locations such as the F1 Singapore Marina Bay circuit and the historic Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur.  This year’s Malaysia edition will see the most diverse and biggest pool of drivers for 2013 with top pros from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, USA and Japan taking part in the race. For Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia, a pool of 32 drivers will be battling it out for a coveted spot in the Top 16 tandem battles.

Malaysian drift fans will also be in for a treat this year, with the introduction of an all new, night Team Drift category which will see drivers breaking team boundaries to pair up with partners of their choice in a special synchronized tandem drift challenge.  For the first time in Formula Drift Asia history, fans will get to watch the top drifters in action at twilight and this will serve as the closing finale of Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia.
