Darryl O’Young took pole position in the Aston Martin during Qualifying 1, whilst Li Zhi Cong took pole in the Porsche 997 GT3 R for GT Asia Series Rounds 7 & 8 at Sepang Circuit. O’Young, who will partner Frank Yu over the weekend after taking over driving duties from the injured Stefan Muecke, clocked a fastest time of 2 minutes 24.479 seconds on a wet track. His teammate, Frank Yu had a harder time during his stint in the second session when the track conditions changed as the Q2 progressed, only managing to set the fifth fastest time.

Asia Racing Team’s Li took the pole in Q2 and despite the changing weather, he was happy with the sessions today. Li is using the new Porsche 997 GT3 R and the team was finding the most suitable setup as he mentioned, the car tended to be a little slower on the straight. The Malaysian crowd will have another local driver to cheer on apart from Series competitor Alex Yoong. A well-known local talent, Rizal Ramli, will partner with Dilantha Malagamuwa for the weekend in Dilango Racing’s Lamborghini LP560 GT3. After his stint, Ramli looked happy but the weather and a small issue with the car set-up did not allow him and Malagamuwa to set a better time.

The GT Asia Series marks its return to the 2013 Season with a visit to Sepang International Circuit for Rounds 7 & 8 this 13-15 September weekend. Round 7 is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 14th September at 4.45pm with Round 8 scheduled on Sunday, 15th September at 1.50pm.

The GT Asia Series Rounds 5 – 10, held at Fuji, Sepang and Zhuhai will mark the start of the AAMC Macau GT Cup, where drivers will also collect points for the Macau GT Championship.

The 2013 GT Asia Series is supported by Yokohama ADVAN, Graham Timekeepers, KW Automotive, AutoArt, Tunewear and RaceRoom. The GT Asia Series is jointly organised by Motorsport Asia and Supercar Club Hong Kong.
