0BMW Shows A New R 1200 GS Adventure
BMW Motorrad is introducing the latest installment of its boxer-engined GS models, the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. The R 1200 GS Adventure builds on the dynamic performance attributes as well as the off-road and touring capabilities of the R 1200 GS to offer those enduro aficionados who have a passion for off-road action. This travel enduro is powered by the same spirited liquid-cooled boxer engine that powered the previous R 1200 GS with an output of 125bhp at 7750 rpm and a displacement of 1170cc.
The engine features a new precision cooling system that employs water instead of oil as a cooling agent. Its through-flow is now vertical to pave way for more efficient power output. The boxer engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox integrated into the engine housing along with the wet clutch. The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is the first BMW production motorcycle that has its shaft drive placed on the left-hand side.
To improve the rideability of the R 1200 GS Adventure, particularly on off-road terrain, its drive flywheel mass was increased by around 950 grams and an extra vibration damper was integrated into the powertrain. Since the BMW GS Adventure has already become an icon among large-capacity travel endures due to its safety features, BMW Motorrad aimed to make the new R 1200 GS Adventure even better.
The R 1200 GS Adventure is built around a robust tubular steel spaceframe and features a larger 30-liter aluminum tank which is 10-liters more than on the R 1200 GS, allowing for a greater range. The R 1200 GS Adventure features as standard an ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), as well as the two riding modes “Rain” and “Road,” allowing riding attributes to be adapted to most road conditions.
