Honda Accord Is ‘GREEN Car Of The Year.
Green Car Journal (from USA) has named the latest Honda Accord as the Green Car of the Year for 2013. According to Ron Cogan, editor of the Green Car Journal, the Accord got the award mainly because it offers high fuel economy ratings for the petrol hybrid, plug-in hybrid and also the standard petrol version. This year’s winner offers something for everyone,” Cogan said. There were five finalists: the Accord, the Audi A6 TDI, the BMW 328d, the Mazda3 and the Toyota Corolla. It was also the second straight year that the winning car was a top-selling sedan that offered US consumers with petrol, petrol-battery hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The Green Car of the Year for 2012 was the Ford Fusion.
The Accord is the best-selling model among the five finalists. In the first 10 months of 2013, Honda posted an 11-percent jump in Accord sales to 307,000 units in the US. It is the second-best selling sedan in the US, just behind the Toyota Camry.
The Accord’s four-cylinder version is EPA rated (combined city and highway driving) at 30 miles per gallon, the hybrid version at 47 mpg; the plug-in hybrid at 46 mpg under petrol power and 115 mpg-equivalent using hybrid-electric power. There will be more hybrid motors coming across Honda’s lineup.
