Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet has reaffirmed its reputation for safety with two of its latest models, the Colorado and the Sonic, being awarded 5-star and 4-star rating respectively, in Phase III of the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN NCAP).

“These results are a testament to Chevrolet’s continued efforts to enhance quality and its commitment to incorporating state-of-the-art safety technologies in all its vehicles. The brand has earned a well-deserved reputation for safety and reliability and this announcement will further boost its status and our customers’ confidence,” said Datuk Wira Hj SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Joint Group Executive Chairman of NAZA Group of Companies.

The Colorado earned an impressive 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 3-star rating for Child Occupant Protection (COP), with the variant without Electronic Stability Control being rated 4-star for AOP and 3-star for COP. The Sonic was awarded a respectable 4 star across the board for both AOP and COP.

The results were announced recently at two events held concurrently; the 2014 Global NCAP Forum in Melbourne, Australia and the ASEAN NCAP launch in Melaka, Malaysia. A total of 11 cars/9 models were subjected to the standard offset front collision at 64kph and a mobile side collision at 50kph, with the testing period taking place between October 2013 and April 2014. This is the first time the Chevrolet marque has been included in the ASEAN NCAP testing (though it has seen top rankings in other NCAPs held across the globe) and the Chevrolet Colorado was one of the first two pick-ups in ASEAN NCAP’s list of tested vehicles.

ASEAN NCAP is the newest addition to the highly regarded NCAP organisations worldwide and aims to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness and encourage a market for safer vehicles in the Southeast Asia region. The Chevrolet Colorado, designed and engineered to be the brand’s toughest, highest-performing and most refined midsize pickup truck ever, is among the safest vehicles in its class. It was developed to meet the highest possible safety standards wherever it is sold its features include Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Traction Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist and Cornering Brake Control as well as driver and occupant airbag protection.
