Nissan Celebrates 30 Years Of NISMO
Nissan is planning a global celebration of its motorsports division, NISMO. This year marks 30 years since the creation of NISMO, and over the course of the next week, the automaker will be hosting special events at key venues starting today with an event at the NISMO headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.
In Japan, Nissan will look back at 30 years of motorsports including with NISMO’s first president in 1984, Yasuharu Namba. While it’s not clear which vehicles will be on display at that celebration, NISMO did release a cool infographic showing all of the projects over the years including the first Le Mans racer in 1986 through next year’s launch of the upcoming LMP1 racer, the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO.
“NISMO owes its success to the hard work and sacrifice of our many predecessors. It also could not have grown to this extent had it not been for the support of all our fans, sponsors and collaborating companies. I would like to thank everyone for all their support throughout the years,” said NISMO president, Shoichi Miyatani. “Next year we will be participating in the top category at the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time in 17 years. I want us, as well as our fans, to head into this new challenge with everything we’ve got.”
From there, Nissan has events planned at this weekend’s races at both the World Endurance Challenge race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX on Saturday as well as the Blancpain Endurance Series Nürburgring 1000kms race in Germany. This latter event will feature a special on-track opportunity for “loyal customers” who will be rewarded with a “sneak peek into the future of NISMO road cars.”
