Mazda 2 Is 2015 Japan Car Of The Year

It has just been announced that the recently unveiled all new 2015 Mazda2 just won the Japan’s Car of the Year award. The Mazda2 won with the all new Mercedes C-Class sitting in a very close 2nd place. How close? Well this Japanese hatchback managed to win the 1st place award by 19 votes. The BMW i3 took the 3rd place, while the Subaru Levorg finished 4th, ahead of the Suzuki Hustler.

“With the Mazda2, we have rewritten the rule book for compact cars. Our new Skyactiv technology, excellent mileage, reasonable pricing and unique design all contributed to our victory today,” commented Mazda’s EVP, Kiyoshi Fujiwara. The new vehicle follows the KODO – Soul of Motion design philosophy and arrives with the innovative MZD Connect in-car connectivity system and the i-Activesense active safety technology.

Under the hood, the vehicle carries the Skyactiv-D 1.5-liter diesel engine that produces 105 hp and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. In addition, the Japanese hatchback is available with a 1.5-liter petrol engine.
