With 25 years and 55 awards under their belt, Botta Design (a name hardeky ever heard of in the part of the world for designer timepieces) knows a thing or two about making watches.

Klaus Botta came up with the display principle of the UNO wristwatch back in 1986. As later became apparent, he had thus developed the world’s first wristwatch to employ the one-hand principle. The UNO became a bestseller and was heaped with international design awards. A delicate line marks the point of transition from one day to the next. The moment the watch hand crosses this line, the date jumps forward to show the new day.

Unique in design, here is their all new UNO 24 NEO which is a singled handed watch, which means the face is dividied up into a 24-hour format. Throughout the day, the hand will only go around the dial once using Swiss made RONDA 515.24H movements, allowing you to look at the passing of your day in a completely new way. The numbers are written out in military form and even features a color distinction to signify night and day.

In other words, the UNO 24 indicates the course of the day in analogue form: The positioning of the watch hand on the dial corresponds to the position of the sun in the sky. The DUO allows this border to be easily overcome. A dual one-hand watch, it shows both the local time and the time at one additional time zone, using just one hand in each case. This is the simple yet amazingly logical principle which the DUO uses to give its wearer reassurance when dealing with different time zones.

The outlying main display shows the local time. Its striking 12-hour hand points to the same one-hand scale that has been used in the UNO for more than 25 years. The scale itself is mounted on a slightly inclined scale ring which guides the markings down to the lower-level 24-hour display.

Weighing at just 43g, they’re quite thin at 40mm, which gives it just about 30 meters of water resistance, but it’s not like you wanted to go snorkeling in it anyway. The Botta Design UNO 24 NEO Single Hand Watch starts from around USD430.00.
