SsangYong will enter the booming subcompact SUV segment in Europe with the Tivoli, which will debut at the Geneva auto show on March 3. The car will compete with models such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur, a SsangYong spokesman said.

SsangYong says the Tivoli will be offered with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine when Europe sales begin in May. A 1.6-liter diesel and optional four-wheel drive will be available starting in July. The Tivoli is based on the XIV concept unveiled at last year’s Paris auto show.

SsangYong sales in Europe rose 50 percent in 2014 to 8,190, according to data from JATO Dynamics. The company’s biggest seller is the Korando compact SUV, followed by the Rexton large SUV. SsangYong expects the Tivoli to significantly boost sales in Europe and forecasts deliveries of more than 6,000 in the UK alone in 2016.
