0Today in Automotive History – 29 August
Today is pretty significant historically for petrol heads. First of all, it marks the birthday anniversary of 1976 Formula One World Chamption James Hunt, who would have been in his late 60s if not for his tragic death in 1993. Hunt’s intense rivalry with Niki Lauda was made subject in the 2013 film, Rush.
The second significant event today is the formation of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. This world famous American company was founded in Ohio in 1898, with its first of many game-changing products coming in 1903 when they provided Henry Ford with racing tyres.
Finally, today also marks the anniversary of Gottleib Daimler’s patent filing for the Reitwagen, the world’s first gasoline internal combustion motorcycle.
