Mercedes-AMG rolls out the GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC
It can be a little difficult to distinguish between the run-of-the-mill AMG models, the AMG packaged models, and the full on AMG built cars. Mercedes-AMG enjoys pushing these things out every few months, with the A45 AMG already redefining how compact an AMG could get, and these AMG branded ML classes and whatnot, everything gets a little confusing.
The latest addition to the scuffle is the GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC, sporting a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo motor and a 9-speed automatic transmission. It’s the new top-of-the-line model for the GLE range, joining the C 450 AMG and the GLE 450 AMG Coupe. We’re still not entirely sure how these naming conventions work, with the 45 and 450s and whatnot, but we’ll go with this for now.
Mercedes-AMG says it has a (wow, sporty) 40:60 front-rear torque bias. No prizes for guessing what the GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC is aiming to take on in the baby-luxury-SUV segment. It comes with 5 different drive modes for you to select exactly what you need to get through a particular situation, although it’s more likely that you’ll alternate between the sportiest and the most comfortable each time. It also gets (wow, comfortable) AIRMATIC suspension with infinitely variable damping.
Will it come to Malaysia? Probably. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has a penchant for providing quite nearly any model you want. Despite being a late entry to the market, it will be an interesting disruption- especially considering how the competition doesn’t have an equivalent model at this trim level. How popular it proves to be though, that remains to be seen.
