Toyota Issues Recall on RAV4 Models sold between 2005 and 2008 in Malaysia

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has announced a recall for certain Toyota and Lexus models regarding seatbelt of the second row seats. The recall involves the Toyota RAV4, RAV4 EV and Vanguard models which were sold in North America, Europe, Japan, China and other countries. Approximately 2,873,000 vehicles which were manufactured between July 2005 and January 2016 are involved.

The affected vehicles are equipped with lap-shoulder seatbelts in both second-row outboard seats. There is a possibility that, in the event of a very severe frontal crash, the lap belt webbing could come in contact with a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut, and separate. If this occurs, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury.

In Malaysia, 5% from the 500 units of RAV4 sold by UMW Toyota Motor are affected. These vehicles were manufactured between October 2005 and September 2008. Owners of these affected units will be contacted to inform them of the Special Service Campaign for this issue and requested to bring their RAV4 to an authorised service centre.

All costs involved in the remedy will be borne by UMW Toyota Motor. Toyota owners in Malaysia who require more information on this matter may call the Toyota free-phone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
