The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at Silverstone for the Second Round of the Season
The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe is heading to Silverstone. Following the record line-up in the Monza opening round (47 cars, 22 teams, 70 drivers on the start line), another full grid is expected in England this weekend (May 14/15th).
Silverstone also sees many important names participating in the second of this season’s six double rounds for the one-make series featuring Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeos. In the PRO class all eyes will again be on the Dane Dennis Lind, who started the season with a victory. While the young rookie of Raton Racing has immediately become one of the main protagonists, the ranking leader is the all-Italian duo of Orange 1 Team Lazarus formed by Nicola De Marco and Fabrizio Del Monte, who twice took second place in Monza, and were first in their class in Race 2 at their home racetrack. Behind them, by only five points, is the Latvian Harald Schlegelmilch (Artline Team Georgia), who finished on the third step of the podium in Race 1 at Monza.
The other “new entry”, Vito Postiglione, managed to stand out at Monza and, thanks to his experience in the various touring and GT championships, immediately expressed great potential by taking the first 2016 pole position and finishing in sixth place twice with his Imperiale Racing car.
All eyes are on the eighteen-year-old Croat Martin Kodric, Bonaldi Motorsport driver, who took fourth place in Monza Race 1 while former F1 driver Nicola Larini – twice ninth at Monza and making his debut in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe with Petri Corse – will try to finish in the top positions. The same goal is shared by reigning champion in the PRO-AM class Loris Spinelli and his new team-mate Enrico Fulgenzi, who race for Antonelli Motorsport and obtained an excellent third-place finish in their Race 2 class during the series’ first round.
The duo of Konrad Motorsport, formed by Nicolas Armindo and Henry Hassid, will again compete in the PRO-AM class. At Monza, the two drivers obtained overall first place in Race 2 thanks to a perfect strategy. But at the moment, two youngsters are leading the class ranking: Andrea Fontana and Lorenzo Veglia, who had a remarkable debut in Monza and obtained a third place overall and two second places in their class. The two drivers of Antonelli Motorsport currently have a six point advantage over Simone Pellegrinelli (Imperiale Racing), respectively third and fourth place in the PRO-AM class following Monza. Other announced protagonists include the new Bonaldi Motorsport crew, formed by the 2015 PRO champion Patrick Kujala and the Swiss Adrian Amstutz, who started the season with a class victory in Race 1.
In the AM class, the spotlight is on the seventeen-year-old Dutchman Rik Breukers, making his debut with GDL Racing and currently leading the ranking by just four points ahead of Raffaele Giannoni (Automobile Tricolore), with whom he shared the victories at Monza. Worthy of note is Britain’s Steve Tandy, who took a second and third place with Imperiale Racing; in theory this driver should feel at home in Silverstone! Finally, Dutchman Gerard Van der Horst (Van der Horst Motorsport), leads the AM standings after finishing in second place twice at Monza. Also among the favorites, on his home track, is Tim Richards (Toro Loco), second in the series and just three points behind the lead position and with a win to his credit.
The weekend’s program includes, as usual, two free practice sessions of one hour each on Friday. On Saturday, qualifying sessions are taking place from 11:10 to 11:45 a.m. (CET). The first of two 50-minute races starts Saturday at 16:30 (CET), while Race 2 is scheduled at 14:20 (CET) on Sunday.
Both races are being broadcasted in Italy by Nuvolari TV, free-to-air on channel 61 of the DTT. They are also available via live streaming on the website of Lamborghini Squadra Corse: http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/en/live. The emotions of each race can be relived on the official YouTube channel of Automobili Lamborghini: http://www.youtube.com/lamborghini.
