In Habanero Orange & Sold Out

Volkswagen has sold more than 21.5 million versions and variants of the iconic Beetle since the original was launched in 1938. It is easily the most recognisable car in the world. Even kids today know the VW Beetle and it will probably continue to be the most iconic car in the world. Volkswagen Malaysia has 3 variants of the all new Beetle to sell you. You can choose from the 1.2TSI to the 1.4TSI and if budget permits, you can look at the 2.0TSI. Like the previous Beetle, this all new Beetle shares its powertrain with the popular VW Golf.

Beetle Design

The curvaceous design of this new VW Beetle enters new territory with lines that are borrowed from the Porsche Cayman. It is almost as if the Cayman was fattened up with additional room in the cabin rear for extra passengers. This new Beetle is 1,808 mm wide (84 mm wider), 1,486 mm tall (12 mm lower) and 4,278 mm long (152 mm longer). This has resulted in entirely new proportions. The gain in length allows the roof to be extended further, the front windscreen shifted back, and the rear section follows the contour of the original Beetle. All of this gives the VW Beetle a powerful appearance with muscular fenders that are filled in with large smart looking alloy wheels. Added on to this ‘Club’ version is a set of 17″ Ravenna alloy wheels, decals with ‘Club’ lettering and side sills with chrome stripping. For interior, this Beetle has stylish orange stitching and ‘Club’ exclusive ‘Vienna’ leather sport seat and steering wheel with ‘Club’ lettering.

Beetle Living Space

This Beetle cabin is a nice place to be in. The retro theme continues with the body colour being used like before inside the cabin on partial panels. This is a nice feature but provides a headache when you want to change the colour of your new Beetle after a few years of ownership. Seating is great for 4 adults and for 5 adults it gets a little tight, after all it’s a coupe. The cabin fitment is very good and there is little to complain. The driver gets a comfortable electric seat and the view out is good in all directions. VW provides a very nice entertainment system and it has multiple connections for mobile devices. Luggage space is better with this new Beetle and it is the rear and not the nose of the car.

Beetle Drive Dynamics

Like its siblings, the Beetle is well insulated from the outside world. Ignite the engine and the 1.2-liter TSI engine is quiet and smooth. Drive it and it is quiet at normal speeds, however with the pillar less front doors there is some wind noise on the highway when you go past the legal speed limit. It is only a slight distraction and with the in car entertainment playing the right tune, this noise is easily drowned out. The steering is light, though the electric system does lack any real feel, giving little incentive to push the Beetle through bends just like with the Golf TSI. In city traffic this Beetle is so easy to live with and if ‘spirited’ driving is needed it does not disappoint.

Safety features have been given a top priority where this Beetle comes with 6 airbags and this is complemented by Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) and Brake Assist (BA). Additionally, the car comes equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensor and auto
