Another house burnt when an EV is being charged at the wallbox
This is not something new as back in January 2026, there was a similar house fire in Section 19, Petaling Jaya which was quickly put out by the Fire Department that happened to be close by.
Till today, we have not been informed of the cause of the fire and this seems to be a pattern when it comes to electrical fires. Was it a sub-standard wall box installation or the electric vehicle battery issue?
Meanwhile, with this latest fire, the authorities and fire department reports have not released or publicly confirmed the specific make and model of the EV involved in this recent house fire in Alam Damai, Cheras.
Here are some details of the incident. On the morning of August 16, 2026, a fire broke out at a two-storey terrace house in Alam Damai, causing estimated 100% damage to the residence. The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) indicated that the fire is preliminary believed to have originated from an electric vehicle (EV) that was being charged in the front porch area.

Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported. The official investigation by JBPM into the exact vehicle model and the root cause (whether it was an issue with the car itself, the wallbox charger, or home wiring) remains ongoing.
