0Land Rover’s 2018 Defender Does Not Do Justice To The Original
A completely new generation of the legendary off-road vehicle – the Land Rover Defender will start production in 2018.
As promised the head of the Land Rover design division, Gerry McGovern, it would be “a modern Defender”. The company hopes that the new concept model will sell 100,000 SUVs annually, and this will help the market success of the introduction of entire five body variants: a three-door, five-door, five-door long-wheelbase and a semi-double and double cabin pickup truck.
It is still not decided where the SUV will be produced. Taking into account the estimated volume of production and the status of the global model, Land Rover could easily start production of “Defender” in its new factory in Slovakia. However, some top managers believe the Defender brand has almost cultural heritage and the UK insist that the new generation of the SUV should be produced in the same place where the previous one – that is, at the Land Rover factory in Solihull, UK.
