ETCM Supports Environment Through Nissan Nurture Nature Beach Clean Up Activity

In conjunction with the World Clean Up Day on the 15th September 2018, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) together with eco-activists Guardians of Mother Earth, Trash Hero and I-Cycle, joined the global civic movement through a local beach clean-up activity in Sepang.

A total of 120 participants involving ETCM employees, Nissan family members and friends, and eco-activist volunteers gathered at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang, worked together to remove discarded materials so that the beach is clean and the marine-life is free from marine debris and pollution.

“Beach Clean Up is one of our eco activities initiative under the umbrella of Nissan Nurtures Nature campaign launched June 2018. We wish to raise the awareness on waste issues and embrace positive habits to enhance society’s quality of life. We hope that this exercise would inspire more people to play their part in preserving our environment; not only at the beaches but other public places too. It is our responsibility to preserve this beautiful country for our children and the future generations.” said Mr Christopher Tan, Sales and Marketing Director of ETCM.

Pantai Bagan Lalang is a beach destination near Sungai Pelek town in Sepang district, approximately 60km from Kuala Lumpur. It is a favourite spot for family activities during weekends such as picnics and camping, boating, and other recreational activities. But sadly, trash especially plastic bags and cigarette butts are commonly found on the beach.
In this beach clean-up activity, participants collected more than 200kg of waste including 113kg recyclable items, 86kg trash and 6kg cigarette butts. Types of common discarded materials collected include straws, glass and plastic bottles, food wrappers and cutleries, and other miscellaneous wastes. These discarded materials data will be submitted to the World Clean Up authorities, so that it can be analyzed and better understand the scale of waste problem in Malaysia.

Interactive sessions were also conducted where participants shared their beach clean-up findings and experience, a short meditation session to connect with nature, and an eco-talk by eco-activist about waste management.

ETCM will continue its Nissan Nurtures Nature campaign and the next eco corner will be held on the 6th and 7th October 2018, from 10am to 8pm exclusively at ETCM Butterworth and ETCM Ipoh.
