PETRONAS and PROTON working together for another Decade

PROTON have extended their partnership with PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia and PETRONAS Lubricants International for another 10 years.

This partnership will see PETRONAS develop, supply and deliver lubricants products from 2019-2029.

PETRONAS has been the official fluid solutions provider for Proton since 1989. The key product in this partnership is PETRONAS Syntium SE oils. For more information, read the press release below.

Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (PROTON) today extended their partnership with PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PLMM), a subsidiary of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) and PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) for a period of ten years, to develop, supply and deliver lubricant products and functional fluids, effective 1 January 2019.

The Global Supply, Technology, Commercial and Collaboration Agreement (STCCA) was inked by Ruslan Islahudin as Regional Business Head APAC PLI witnessed by Andrew Wong, Regional Head for OEM APAC together with PROTON signee Lim Meng Jin, Chief Procurement Officer of PROTON, witnessed by Yusri Yusof as Senior Director of Corporate Strategy. As for the Local Supply and Commercial Collaboration Agreement (LSCCA), it was signed by Hardeep Singh as the CEO of PLMM for PETRONAS and witnessed by Gan Kher Yang, General Manager Sales B2C meanwhile PROTON’s signee was Tuan Haji Hamizan Osman, Senior Director Procurement of PROTON while the witness remained the same.

The signing of the agreements was witnessed by Dato’ Sri Syed Zainal Abidin, MD/CEO of PDB and Chairman of PLMM and PLI, alongside Giuseppe D’Arrigo, CEO of PLI. PROTON was represented by Dr Li Chunrong, and Deputy CEO, Dato Radzaif Mohamed. PROTON and PETRONAS have a long history of working together so it was only natural for us to extend our partnership. PROTON has a lot of exciting new models in the pipeline and we are eager to explore technical solutions developed together with PETRONAS that will benefit our customers,” said Dr Li Chunrong.

In 2019 PROTON has achieved a sales turnaround fueled by the Proton X70, Malaysia’s first intelligent SUV. For the first three months of the year, it has posted the highest sales numbers of any SUV and continues to gain interest from Malaysian car buyers who have booked over 25,000 units thus far.

Despite being an all-new product, PROTON’s first SUV has proven to be popular due to its advanced technology, contemporary and attractive styling as well as superior product quality that is rigidly audited by PROTON. The Company has also invested in its network of 3S/4S outlets to deliver a premium level of service to its customers and currently has the highest number of such outlets for any automotive brand in Malaysia.

Through this partnership, PLI and PLMM will continue to supply a range of quality products for PROTON’s factory fill and aftersales service, with key product being the PETRONAS Syntium SE range.

PETRONAS’ lubricants and functional fluids are developed based on the PETRONAS Fluid Technology SolutionsTM integrated approach, which is at the core of its engineering work. It leverages on the knowledge and insights gained through its extensive R&D facilities worldwide including the USD$60 million Global Research and Technology Center in Villastellone Turin, Italy and its USD$8 million Satellite Research and Technology Centre in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
