2020 PROTON X70 (CKD) Launched From RM94K With 17 Changes

There’s a lot of excitement around today’s launch of the 2020 Proton X70. Not only will this be the first locally-assembled Geely product at the refurbished Tanjung Malim plant, but this model also brings significant changes. 

But first, here are the new prices and equipment levels:

Compared to the fully-imported 2018 Proton X70, this 2020 model has 16 obvious changes, plus a few localisation (Battery and tyres, most easy to spot) and behind the scenes improvements that are a little tougher to pin down. But, from our brief encounter with the 2020 model, here’s what we can see has changed compared to initial car.

Aesthetic changes

1. New logo on grille
2. New logo on rim centre caps
3. New engine cover
4. New logo projected by puddle lamps
5. New logo etched on the windscreen and windows

Equipment changes

1. New powered tailgate with kick-to-open function, height memory set
2. New reclining rear seats
3. New 7-speed dual clutch automatic (Wet clutch, volvo design)
4. New drive-by-wire gear selector 
5. Ventilated front seats

Tuning changes

1. Engine retuned for 300Nm of torque (+5%)
2. Fuel efficiency improved by 13%
3. Acceleration improved by 1 sec (0-100km/h in 9.5 seconds)

Colour changes

1. Ruby Red colour option replaces Flame Red
2. Space Grey colour option added

Packaging changes

1. Executive AWD variant dropped
2. Premium and Premium X variants created (With or without sunroof)
