Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially previewed the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line, serving as the internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart to the recently launched all-electric CLA.
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line will be locally-assembled at the Mercedes-Benz production plant in Pekan, Pahang, and today the company previewed the new four-door coupe. The new CLA expands drivetrain options within the brand’s compact vehicle portfolio with a petrol hybrid option to complement the all-electric version.
Pre-bookings are officially open with an estimated retail price starting from RM275,000 in Peninsular Malaysia. The first 100 customers to place a reservation will receive exclusive passes to the upcoming Mercedes-AMG F1 Party.
Ownership is also supported via the Agility+ financing plan, featuring monthly installments starting from an estimated RM2,888 per month. The package includes a fifth-year Star Gold extended limited warranty, four Compact Service maintenance packages, guaranteed future vehicle value, and the MobilityPlus replacement car program.
Electrified 8G-eDCT: Sub-5.0L/100km Fuel Consumption
Setting a benchmark as the most fuel-efficient combustion-powered Mercedes-Benz model in its segment, the CLA 200 achieves a combined fuel economy of around 5.0 litres per 100 km and below:
- Engine Output: Driven by a 1,499 cc turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 120 kW (163 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 4,000 rpm.
- Electrified Transmission: The engine is mated to a newly developed electrified eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (8G-eDCT) featuring an integrated permanent-magnet electric motor.
- Combined System Performance: Total system output rises to 135 kW (184 hp) and 330 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds toward a top track speed of 232 km/h.
- Urban EV Driving and Sailing: At gentle city speeds requiring less than 22 kW of power, the car can propel itself solely on electric power. Decoupled coasting or “electric sailing” operates at speeds up to 100 km/h.
- Energy Recuperation: The transmission recuperates kinetic energy across all eight gears, harvesting up to 25 kW back into a compact 48-volt lithium-ion battery (up to 1.3 kWh). The electric motor also restarts the combustion engine smoothly via a disconnect clutch, eliminating the traditional mechanical pinion starter.
Illuminated Grille and Sporty AMG Line Styling
The CLA 200 closely mirrors the exterior styling of its pure-electric sibling, distinguished by a model-specific front fascia:
- Signature Front End: Showcases an AMG Line front bumper with a chrome Mercedes-Benz star-pattern radiator grille, framed by an LED light guide that illuminates the grille perimeter.
- Lighting & Wheels: Equipped with MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, an animated Mercedes-Benz pattern surround-projection system, a full-width rear light strip, and 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.
- Suspension: Standard lowered comfort suspension ensures agile handling and highway stability.
- Color Selection: Available in five exterior finishes: Cosmic Black, Polar White, High-Tech Silver, Sheer Blue, and Aqua Mint.
Interior Tech: MB.OS and Full-Width MBUX Superscreen
Inside, the cabin introduces the cutting-edge Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), powered by supercomputers linked to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud for seamless over-the-air (OTA) updates.
The centerpiece of the interior is the pillar-to-pillar MBUX Superscreen, housed under a single contoured glass surface:
- Tri-Screen Array: Consists of a 10.25-inch driver instrument cluster, a 14-inch central touchscreen, and a dedicated 14-inch front passenger display offering third-party app streaming, over 40 native applications, and direct Disney+ playback.
- MBUX Virtual Assistant: Integrates generative AI engines from Microsoft and Google using a multi-agent framework to deliver contextual, natural-voice conversations without repeated prompts.
- AI Google Navigation: Combines Google Maps data with Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, blending 3D environmental modeling and active driver-assist graphics directly into the driver display.
- Cabin Trim: Fitted with the AMG Line Sports Seat Package upholstered in ARTICO synthetic leather and MICROCUT microfibre, light carbon-grain aluminium accents, a nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel, dual-zone THERMOTRONIC climate control, a panoramic glass roof, and a 5G connectivity module.
MB.DRIVE and Active Safety Systems
The CLA 200 AMG Line incorporates comprehensive active safety via the MB.DRIVE suite, headlined by Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, GUARD 360° vehicle protection, and MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 with a high-resolution surround-view camera layout for automated maneuvering in tight spaces.
