7 Killed as Overloaded MPV Crashes into Trailer

Driving with too many passengers can lead to an increased risk of accidents as it upsets the balance of the vehicle. Not only that, an overloaded car carries a greater momentum when driven at speed and there is a chance that the brakes might not be up to the task when the time comes.

Also, cramming people into a car means not everyone will get to wear a seatbelt and those who do not are more likely to be ejected from the vehicle in an event of a crash. Here’s a gruesome reminder why one should not overload their vehicle.

A collision between a Perodua Alza and a trailer at Jalan Keramat Pulai near Simpang Pulai left seven people dead and three injured. According to reports, the deceased comprised five adults and two children while the injured are two children and a man.

According to district police chief assistant commissioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz, the accident happened at 5.30 pm as the victims were heading back to Kedah from Cameron Highlands.

He added that the driver is believed to have lost control of the seven-seater MPV before entering the opposite lane and ramming into the trailer.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5.55 pm and reportedly took an hour to remove all victims.

The bodies were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortems. The injured were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
