Vespa Sei Giorni II Launched in Malaysia

There’s a new Vespa in town and it is the limited-edition Vespa Sei Giorni II. It was launched at Didi Resource’s inaugural Vespa Day which was held at the Lost World of Tambun, where 200 Vespa owners congregated to celebrate the nation’s 63rd Independence Day.

The Sei Giorni (which is Italian for ‘six days’) edition pays homage to the original Vespa Sport model that bagged nine gold medals at the Sei Giorni Internazionale held in Varese in 1951.

This latest edition sets itself apart with its unique Grey Titanio shade and bronze top fairing that encapsulates the instrument panel. The “tie” in the centre of the redesigned shield gets matte black finishing while the grilles positioned to the sides of the shield feature honeycomb inserts. Finishing off the snazzy look is the number ‘6’ emblazoned on the front shield and rear panel.

This Vespa is powered by a reworked version of the 300 HPE engine which now produces 23.8 hp and 26 Nm of torque, representing an increase of 12% and 18% over the previous version.

The Sei Giorni II is priced at RM34,500 including a GTS windscreen, as well as a 36-litre top box and its bracket. According to the chairman of Didi Resources Rewi Hamid Bugo, the first batch which is expected to arrive this month has been taken up. It is unknown how many will make it here.

PRESS RELEASE

Didi Resources Sdn Bhd, the official Piaggio distributor in Malaysia introduces its limited-edition Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition at its 1st Vespa Day.

“The Vespa Day Malaysia was created together with Vespa Club Malaysia to celebrate the heritage and love for Vespa, and today we witness different generations of Vespa ridden to this venue which lay testament to the reliability of the scooter that has been loved since 1946”

“To make this day even more special, we took opportunity to choose a special venue, the Lost World of Tambun, to celebrate together our 63rd Independence Day with over 200 Vespa owners and introduce a special limited edition model called the Sei Giorni II Edition which celebrates 6 days endurance and won 9 awards from the 10 participants in 1951, I am also proud to say the 1st batch arriving this month has been fully taken up” mentioned Mr. Rewi Hamid Bugo, Chairman Didi Resources Sdn. Bhd.

The year was 1951 and the Piaggio Squadra Corse astonished the racing world, triumphing over real off-road motorbikes in one of the hardest and most prestigious competitions. In the post-war period, regularity competitions were in their heyday: these were taxing trials on extremely hard routes, hundreds of kilometres long. An extraordinary test bench for man and machine.

The most prestigious competition was the Sei Giorni Internazionale which, in its 26th edition, was held in Varese.

The ten Vespas that took to the start line were regarded with general scepticism: what could they possibly hope to achieve against real motorbikes designed for racing? Yet Vespa, with the model created specifically for that race and based on the Sport version, dominated to take no less than 9 individual gold medals. It was a crushing supremacy achieved on impervious off-road routes and with a pure speed trial at the Monza circuit, which also earned Piaggio the Industry Gold Medal as the only Italian team to win the trial.

The Vespa “Sei Giorni” which took its name from that victory, was very similar to the standard model aesthetically, differing primarily for its larger fuel tank, more streamlined shield and larger right-side pannier housing the carburettor on the cylinder. That Sei Giorni model is one of the most legendary in the history of Vespa, and is now highly sought after by collectors. It is one of the most valuable Vespas in the world since it was produced as a limited edition of roughly 300 units, clearly destined for regularity competitions.

Characterised by the large body made strictly in steel, perfect for moving about elegantly in the city but always ready for travel and adventure, the updated Vespa Sei Giorni adopts the most powerful engine in the history of the world’s most famous and beloved scooter.

Covid 19 has been a challenging time for all of us however the spirit and love of Vespa continues and we celebrate the Malaysia 63 years of independence by organising the Vespa Day which is one of the many lifestyle programs for us to celebrate the diversity, heritage and love for Vespa and Malaysia.

Following on from the success of Vespa Sei Giorni comes the second series of a very modern legend, which blends the technology of the new HPE engine and the authentic Vespa regularity racing tradition. Vespa Sei Giorni is the origins of a legend that we bring to meet the Malaysian fans. In 2020, Vespa Sei Giorni II edition is produced as a numbered edition and is redesigned in terms of its style and technical content.

Vespa Sei Giorni 2020
The new 300 HPE engine (High Performance Engine) is the latest evolution of the 300 cc single-cylinder 4 stroke 4 valve liquid-cooled engine with electronic injection. With respect to the first version, maximum power reaches a value of 17.5 kW (23.8 HP) at 8250 revs, which translates into an increase of 12%, while maximum torque, equal to 26 Nm at 5250 revs, rises by 18%.

A unique design, inspired by the origins of Vespa
The style of the Vespa Sei Giorni is clearly reminiscent of the classic Vespa. Characteristic elements are the “low headlight”, meaning that the light assembly is on the front mudguard, and the handlebar that, on the original Vespa Sei Giorni, stood out for the simplicity of the exposed metal tubing in line with Vespas of that period. The stylish appeal and construction rationale of this solution is carried over to the new model, enhanced with elegant circular instruments with an analogue speedometer on a white background. This is reminiscent of the original Vespa style but with an ultra-modern technological package that ensures a wealth of information for the rider.

Another distinctive element of Vespa Sei Giorni is the bronze top fairing that elegantly wraps the instruments, while the front section features the same style details that renewed the design of the Vespa GTS. In the centre of the redesigned shield, the unmistakeable “tie”, extended and enhanced with three matte black embellishments. To the sides of the shield, the grilles are characterised by a honeycomb motif.

The general aesthetics follow the style of the sportiest Vespas, the black number plate taken directly from the livery of the Vespa used by the legendary Squadra Corse in the ’50s for example, and are enhanced with total black parts – such as the wheel rims and the silencer – and gritty red details. Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition also stands out for its new colour, Grey Titanio.

The sporty spirit of the Vespa Sei Giorni is also highlighted by the single-seat look saddle (which is in fact passenger approved) with two-layer upholstery and piping, and electro-welded top stitching on the seat with contrasting white stitching. Lastly, on the back of the leg shield, the “Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition” numbered plate highlights the uniqueness of this special model.

Comfort and safety
Vespa Sei Giorni takes those values typical of the Vespa GTS range, namely style, comfort and safety, and makes them its own. Like all the large body Vespa versions, Vespa Sei Giorni boasts a spacious helmet compartment and a large and comfortable seating area. The ergonomics are perfectly Vespa, enhanced by the comfort of the large body; the seat position is natural and allows total control over the vehicle as well as absolute comfort even over long distances.

It features a USB port as standard, located inside the leg shield compartment, while the rear light set now adopts full LED lighting technology, a solution that contributes to improving active safety. On the safety front, the ABS anti-lock braking system is standard equipment.

Accessories
For Vespa Sei Giorni, as for all the Vespa GTS versions, a windscreen, spacious 36 litre Top-box and top box bracket are all available. The front and rear luggage racks are among the most requested and appreciated accessories, embodying both the Vespa personality, in a strong and distinct fashion, as well as its long touring tradition. The chrome perimeter guard kit is just one of the chrome accessories and guarantees maximum Vespa protection while offering strong aesthetic personalisation. In order to offer even more comfortable riding position, a saddle in the more traditional two-up configuration is also available, this too featuring two-layer upholstery and piping. The brown seat in real “Made in Italy” leather offers an added touch of elegance.

The leg cover in thermal material, easy to install, offers riding comfort all year round. Additional accessories include a vehicle cover, mechanical anti-theft system, electronic anti-theft, anti-slip rubber mat and a real leather bag.

In addition to the accessories, clothing specifically dedicated to this prestigious Vespa is available, such as the jet helmet with visor, in the same style and colour as the vehicle and enhanced with “Sei Giorni” logos, a leatherette shell finishing and interior with anti-allergen treatment. Along with the T-shirt, cap and cotton bag, these accessories accompany the Vespa rider on every trip in unmistakeable “Sei Giorni” style.

The Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition is now available from RM34,500 which comes with the Vespa GTS versions windscreen, spacious 36 litre Top-box and top box bracket.
