Facelifted Toyota Vios Teased, Malaysian Market Launch Soon

Toyota Malaysia have teased the upcoming Vios on their website. The current Vios has been on sale in Malaysia since January 2019, giving it a production run of less than 2 years. That launch brought an all-new design along with many equipment and chassis improvements. The update that came before that was in late 2016, when the original engine and gearbox were replaced by a more modern Dual-VVTi engine and CVT gearbox.

The biggest change on this 2021 Toyota Vios has to be the redesigned front grille and bumper as well as the inclusion of reflector LED headlamps for the first time on the Vios. The face of the Vios looks much more modernised with these headlamps. It’s also the first time the daytime-running lights have been incorporated into the headlamp cluster.

Based on the launch of this facelifted Vios in other markets, such as the Philippines, not much will be altered besides the front end design. However, there are a few noteworthy new features including:

  • Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) with pre-collision system (PCS) and a lane departure alert (LDA)
  • all-new 3D 360 degree panoramic view monitor
  • 7” inch Android Auto-Ready & Apple CarPlay (AACP)
  • Vehicle Telematics System is also made as a standard feature for the Vios (G&E variants)
  • two new colours, Orange Metallic and Platinum White Pearl join existing colours (Dark Blue Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Silver Metallic)

That means you can still expect a 2NR-FE motor with a 1.5-litre displacement and Dual VVT-i paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission for maximum efficiency. 6 airbags, blindspot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, a panoramic view monitor and a semi-digital instrument cluster are some of the equipment highlights of the current Vios.

The Vios is currently assembled at Toyota’s Bukit Raja plant, one of the most modern and eco-friendly car plants in the region. The hatchback equivalent of the Vios, the Yaris, is also produced at this plant. The facelifted version of the Yaris was first known back in May with UMW Toyota confirming its arrival to Malaysia along the facelifted Vios. No launch date was confirmed, but it’s likely the two related models will be launched at a joint event before the end of 2020. The new Yaris is open for booking and one can register one’s interest in the new Vios

Here’s the press release for the Yaris as no press release has been issued for the new Vios as of this time.
