Caterham Seven 310, 420 and 620 Now Available In Malaysia!

If you’re a fan of lightweight, British sports cars, good news! You now can purchase Caterham Cars in Malaysia. In April 2020, we reported that Toycarz would be bringing back the Lotus brand to Malaysia and now it seems they’ve found another performance-focused British marque to handle.

What models are available?

From what we’ve heard, waiting times are pretty long, but you’re more than welcome to give them a shot. Currently, 3 variants of the Caterham Seven are being offered: 310S, 420R, and the 620S. In Caterham speak, ‘S’ denotes a car specified for road use, with some sporty extras, while ‘R’ denotes track-optimised equipment.

Seven 310S

The Caterham 310S is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.6L Ford Sigma engine producing 154PS and 168Nm of torque. Thanks to the Seven’s low weight of just 540kg, this 4-cylinder engine is enough for it to go from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The price in Langkawi is listed as RM233,000. Buying it in Peninsular Malaysia will cost RM462,000.

The way the 310S is specified with 15″ Orcus silver alloy rims (which are larger than standard), an uprated brake master cylinder, a tonneau cover and a quick-release MOMO steering wheel.

Seven 420R

Moving on, the RM568,000 mid-range Seven 420R gets its power from a naturally-aspirated 2.0L Ford Duratec engine. This engine puts out 213PS and 203Nm of torque, bringing the century sprint time down to 3.8 seconds and the top speed up to 219km/h.

It has been configured for our market with the R Pack as follows:

  • front ventilated disk brakes with quad piston calipers
  • quick-release suede-covered MOMO steering wheel
  • rollbar
  • Full weather equipment and interchangeable composite aero screen
  • Black vinyl tonneau cover

Other equipment that is named in the R Pack include:

  • Limited-slip differential
  • Lightweight flywheel
  • Sport suspension pack
  • Uprated brake master cylinder
  • Carbon-fibre dashboard
  • Composite race seats
  • 4-point race harnesses
  • Black pack
  • Unique key, gearknob & instruments
  • Shift light

Seven 620S

Finally, there’s the Seven 620S. For RM688,000, you get a supercharged 2.0L Ford Duratec-powered beast capable of doing 0-100km/h in just 2.79 seconds. That’s about as fast as it gets in the world of high-performance vehicles. This engine puts out 314PS and 297Nm of torque. Top speed on this variant is 249km/h.

If you look closely, you’ll see that this model actually features a different nose than the others. That’s because they’ve employed a specially-designed air-flow optimised nose cone.

The chassis is also finished in gunmetal.

Who are Karrus Automotive?

While Toycarz seem to be in charge of the front end of things, the cars are reportedly being brought in through Karrus Automotive.

Karrus Automotive had its start as a Subaru dealer in 2017. They have at least two Subaru dealerships associated with them, including one in Glenmarie and another in Setapak.
