Toyota GR Yaris In The Malaysian Used Car Market
With such limited supply, it is no surprise you need a pay a premium for this GR Yaris.
We were just shared this interesting used car advert on social media. A very low mileage white colour Toyota GR Yaris for sale. The seller is firm on their selling price. This limited edition hot hatch is selling for RM320,000 or the nearest reasonable offer.
Well, a reasonable offer can’t be that much lower as the stated mileage is just 336 kilometers (which is delivery mileage for most brand new cars) which means this is un-molested, un-abused and with full factory warranty Toyota GR Yaris. Plus, the seller has installed a limited edition official factory GR body styling kit worth RM11,000.
Priced brand new from the showroom at RM286,896 (including sales tax exemption), then you add the RM11k body-kit, this means the ‘born for racing’ Toyota hot hatch cost is about RM297k. So, the seller is seeking a reasonable RM23k or so profit margin (before taking away interest on the cash he used to buy this speed machine).
Some GR Information
UMW Toyota have still yet to officially announce it, but it looks as if all the GR Yaris models allocated for Malaysia have been sold out. Launched in Japan in September 2020, this car was designed from the start to win the world rally championship (WRC).
UMW Toyota continues to encourage interested parties to register their interest with GR Garage dealers nationwide. Alternatively, customers can also register their interest online.
Preferring to say instead that demand for these hot hatches were ‘overwhelming’, the underlying message from the official distributors of Toyota in Malaysia points to a very high likelihood that all 127 units of these top-spec Performance Pack Edition homologation specials that were allocated to Malaysia have found enthusiastic owners over here.
Only 25,000 units ever to be produced at the GR factory in Motomari, Japan, these limited run Yaris will probably be considered as the halo Toyota designed from the start to be even more iconic than the AE86 or the Supra.
Launching locally for pre-bookings on the 17th of December last year, it only took one full month for these compact and quick Toyotas to ‘have shot out of the showrooms with unprecedented speed’.
These stellar sales locally should come as no surprise though, especially considering the news that broke down regarding the initial 1,100 units which were allocated for Australia that sold out within just a week of its launch.
