The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Looks Very Similar To Petrol Model

There are only a few minor details separating the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV from the petrol model.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi Motors revealed their all-new Outlander, based on a shared platform with the all-new Nissan X-Trail and Rogue. This new Outlander model debuted with 3 rows of seats, just like the outgoing one. However, it also featured a much more bold looking Dynamic Shield face and was only shown in its petrol configuration at its premiere.

What was even stranger was the fact that Mitsubishi Motors had just started production of the outgoing Outlander PHEV in Thailand in December 2020. Two months later, the all-new petrol model was unveiled. Well, now that the new model too has a PHEV variant in the pipeline, we wonder what’s going to happen to production of the last one in Thailand.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV details

The official premiere of the new Outlander PHEV is actually only happening at the end of the month. However, Mitsubishi Motors thought it would be good to share some information and official photos to get the excitement up in the meantime.

To be honest, we’re not really sure how much different this model looks compared to the petrol one besides the two-tone roof and the digital graphics for the instrument cluster. Even the 20″ rims look exactly like the ones we saw before. Perhaps there are a few different emblems for the PHEV model. Otherwise, this looks virtually identical to the petrol Outlander. 10 exterior body colours are planned including Red Diamond, White Diamond, and the new Black Diamond. In fairness, it’s quite a handsome looking SUV and we’re sure many Malaysians are waiting for their chance to own one.

In some ways, that’s a good thing. The previous Outlander PHEV only came with 5 seats, but this time around, Mitsubishi has managed to engineer the vehicle to make room for the third row of seats as well as its presumably sizeable battery pack.

Sales of the new Outlander PHEV are expected to begin in mid-December 2021 for Japan. Head here if you want to watch the premiere of this vehicle on October 28 at 12:30 p.m. JST.
