Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Brings Xmas Joy To Rumah KIDS Children

This year’s event marks the company’s first official partnership with Nicol David Organisation

Christmas is around the corner and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is taking this opportunity to bring joy and happiness to the underprivileged through its annual social initiative known as “Christmas in a Shoebox”. For the 11th installation of the event, over 30 children from Rumah K.I.D.S. were treated to a special Christmas party held at Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Club.

In partnership with Nicol David Organisation (NDO), the event began with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia employees chauffeuring the children to the grounds of the celebration. Upon arrival, they were hosted to an array of fun, exciting and interactive sport tele-matches target to nurture talent development, builds team spirit, and inculcate values through sports.

“Children bring so much joy into our lives and they are our future. At Mercedes-Benz, social responsibility is one of our core values and is firmly anchored in our value system. We are committed to nurturing and empowering these little ones and hope to support them as much as possible to build a better tomorrow.

Throughout our 11 years of this Christmas in a Shoebox initiative, our employees have come together to give back to the community in a meaningful way and we’re glad to be able to organise this with Datuk Nicol David through her new organisation,” said Ms. Sagree Sardien, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

The little guests from Rumah K.I.D.S enjoyed a sumptuous lunch and a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus, played respectively by Michael Jopp, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, and Sagree Sardien, President & CEO, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia who came bearing gifts for the children. These gifts were purchased by employees based on the children’s Christmas wish list.

In 2022, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be expanding its involvement in the community and further strengthening its partnership with NDO through a joint sport project collaboration to build a positive future for children. This collaboration aims to empower boys and girls from B40 and M40 families around the three core values of positivity, confidence, and respect through the values of sports and education. Children will be taught valuable life skills around self-awareness, healthy habits, and an opportunity for them to boost their English proficiency.

“Having worked with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia for many years, their commitment is evident, and we are overjoyed to have them onboard for this partnership. This is the new beginning for NDO and myself to give back to the local community and to share the knowledge that I gained from my squash career. I realised that I had other experiences from squash that I can tap onto and do new things to create an impact. Through this platform and the support of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, I believe we can together create an impact to nurture our next generation,” said Datuk Nicol David, Founder of Nicol David Organisation.

This collaboration is Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s first official partnership with the organisation, leading into 2022 with more to come. Globally, the leading premium automaker is also one of the founding partners of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which champions sports as parts of the brand’s key social responsibility pillar.

Founded in 1991, Rumah K.I.D.S reaches out to abused, orphaned and abandoned children. The word K.I.D.S stands for Kanak-kanak ini diSayangi and truly, at Rumah KIDS – they are loved and cared for. Under the guidance of house parents, the children are introduced to a new family where they develop friendships with other ‘brothers’ and sisters in a loving environment.

They find joy and security in a healthy routine of study, chores, play and rest. Beyond providing the children’s basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and education, Rumah K.I.D.S also cares for the spiritual, mental and physical needs of every child.
