All-Electric Kia EV6 GT Has 576 Electric Horsepower On Tap

Kia EV6 GT unleashes the full performance potential of E-GMP.

The Kia EV6 has made waves ever since it arrived. Despite sharing a platform with the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the EV6 has taken a more performance-oriented approach to its packaging and design. And now, there’s a full-spec EV6 GT model to give customers the best Kia has to offer in terms of sportiness. This flagship variant of the EV6 was shown in the USA alongside supercars at the Monterey Car week. Interestingly, it is Kia’s most powerful production car ever.

Building on the flexible E-GMP modular platform, the EV6 GT raises the bar for electric performance in a daily vehicle. It features a dual motor setup as before and an 77.4 kWh Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese battery pack. The front motor has an output of 160kW while the rear one provides some 270kW making 430kW in total and 740Nm of torque.

This immense of power gives the vehicle a 0-100km/h time of approximately 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 260km/h – what would have been supercar numbers not so long ago.

It’s not just the motors that have been upgraded. Kia’s engineering team has worked on a bespoke sport suspension system and performance components including electronically controlled dampers, dynamic damping control, an electronic LSD, ventilated disc brakes with monoblock calipers (quad piston in front) and a unique front suspension system. Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres are used as standard. The chassis has also been stiffened up and a quicker ratio steering has been fitted.

The EV6 GT has a new GT Drive Mode, My Drive Mode, and Drift Mode in additional to the standard Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow drive modes. The drive mode selector maps different settings to the vehicle’s motors, brakes, steering, suspension, e-LSD and ESC systems. There are also two sounds unique to the EV6 GT, which can be user-selected. The EV6 GT also uses a integrated drive axle, which has better durability and handling while weighing less.

In terms of looks, there’s an easy way to distinguish the EV6 GT from the rest of the lineup – neon brake callipers. These are housed within 21″ alloy wheels. Inside, vegan suede covers most of the interior with green piping and ‘GT’ inscribed on the seats. There are more neon accents inside and a striped motif too.

In the US, Kia EV6 GT customers will receive 1,000 kWh of free charging through the Electrify America network over 3 years.
