PROTON X50 Crowned Best-Selling Vehicle For July 2022

This record breaking achievement relieves any sales drop doubts PROTON had after the SST tax exemptions

PROTON X50

Malaysia’s first National car brand, PROTON has made history with their PROTON X50 which recently became the best selling vehicle in July of this year, setting a record in sales volume in Malaysia for July 2022.

This helped PROTON retain its position as the market leader in the popular SUV segment and the first time PROTON has been at the top of the overall market in sales volume.

This comes after PROTON reported its best sales month in June where the company registered 11,477 units (domestic and export) despite parts shortage issues and is currently sitting at 71,601 units sold for overall sales so far this year, which is a 19.7 percent increase form the same time period last year.

PROTON also maintained its second place position in national automotive sales with an estimated market share of 22.7 percent for this month and has seen a year-to-date (YTD) market share increase of 18.7 percent.

On top of that, PROTON also estimated their Total Industry Volume (TIV) to be at 50,500 units as registrations dip back down following the expiry of the SST tax exemptions which ended on 30 June 2022.

The PROTON X50 continues to achieve top sales since last month. With 4,763 units registered this month. This number is now the peak for the segment, while the all new PROTON X70 which launched in June also led its segment with 1,704 registrations last month pushing PROTON’s overall SUV sales volume past 31,500 units so far this year.

The refreshed PROTON Saga also topped its segment with 4,521 units registered last month and the 2022 model launched in May garnered 9,811 registrations pushing cumulative sales for the year so far to 28,005 units.

Moreover, The PROTON Exora also retained its top spot in its segment, however, the PROTON Persona and Iriz suffered approval delays which caused registrations to be temporarily halted.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, Roslan Abdullah, said, “The company is immensely proud of the (X50) model becoming the first SUV to be crowned as the best-selling vehicle in Malaysia and we are thankful for the support from our customers. This achievement and PROTON’s sales leadership in other segments shows our business plan is on the right track and repays the confidence placed in the brand by buyers, investors and other stakeholders.”

As far as export goes, Roslan added, “The easing of restrictions in global trade has been a major boost for PROTON’s export division. With five months to go, we are on target for yet another year of double-digit percentage growth, though our enthusiasm is couched by economic issues faced in overseas markets.

Congratulations to PROTON for this achievement and I hope they keep it up as I am nostalgic for my childhood days when nearly all cars I saw on the road were PROTON cars.
