Petronas 180kW DC Fast Charger Ready And F.O.C. Until Malaysia Day 2022

The 2nd Petronas DC Fast Charger is ready and free to use until Malaysia Day 2022.

While most Malaysians will likely keep using petrol and hybrid cars for the foreseeable future, we’re starting to see steps being put in place to get the ‘electric vehicle revolution’ going. So far, it’s still way behind any of our neighbours and more for the T20 than anything else. However, progress is being made. Petronas through their Gentari subsidiary has opened their second 180kW DC Fast charging station with CCS charging cables, though it is unclear if the charger can be operated as 2 90kW chargers. Two purple painted lots with lightning bolt symbols are present by the charger, but it seems to be configured for 1 X 180kW charging.

The new station is located at the PETRONAS Pedas Linggi (North Bound) petrol station along the PLUS Highway. In honour of Merdeka, Malaysia Day as well as Petronas Dagangan Berhad’s 40th anniversary, the charger will be free for public use until the 16th of September 2022. After that, the charging rate is set at RM2.20 per minute. This station has a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet, so you can top up your electric vehicle while you have a snack and a drink.

According to the Plugshare page for this charger, users have been charging there since the 30th of August 2022. The charging unit is manufactured by ABB and the model is the Terra 184HC CC. This Petronas petrol station still retains the slow 22kW AC charger by ChargEV. A 50kW DC Fast Charging station operated by JomCharge is located 13km away at the Caltex Ayer Keroh station.

The first 180kW DC Fast charging station went online in late July 2022. It is located at the Petronas petrol station at the Eastbound Gambang R&R stop. These Petronas Gentari chargers can be activated via the Setel app or through JomCharge. While the 2nd Petronas DC fast charger bears the Gentari, JomCharge logos as well as Mercedes-Benz logos, the 1st one was a little different. It was launched before Gentari and bears ‘Energise by Petronas’ branding instead. This new one is all purple with a stylised Gentari logo near the bottom of the charger and smaller Mercedes-Benz and JomCharge logos near the top, side by side.
