BYD And Sime Darby Motors Start Business Operations In Malaysia

Sime and BYD have signed a Distribution Agreement to bring the world’s leading NEV brand to Malaysia.

Sime Darby Motors (SDM) Malaysia, has just inked a Distribution Agreement with BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles.

Nor surprising as in July this year dsf.my was the first to share the news that BYD was coming to Malaysia and in partnership with Sime Darby Motors.

This will mark the entry of BYD’s electric vehicles (EV) for the Malaysian passenger car market, with SDM as the distributor.

SDM Malaysia and BYD formalised the partnership at a signing ceremony between Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Retail and Distribution of Sime Darby Motors Malaysia, and Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd and PT. BYD MOTOR INDONESIA.

Held at Sime Darby Motors City in Ara Damansara, the ceremony was witnessed by Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors, and Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division.

The agreement will entail SDM distributing BYD’s ATTO 3 and new e6 models.

In case you were wondering about possible selling prices, well the compact electric crossover called Atto 3 (called the ‘Yuan Plus’ in China).

There are many Malaysians who want a lower priced EV, priced between RM100k to RM150k and this BYD Atto 3 might just be the answer as its selling price in Australia is about RM140k. .

Did you know that BYD in Singapore is distributed by Sime Darby Motors Singapore? Meanwhile, recently we shared news that BYD will be starting assembly operations in Thailand for the ASEAN region.

Given its proven track record and well-established presence in the automotive sector in the Asia Pacific region, we look forward to partnering with Sime Darby Motors to serve Malaysia’s growing EV demand.”
